Elements of a Writing Project
Looking at a beautiful picture is a little like looking at all the parts of a writing project at the same time.
First, there's the idea, a story to tell. A feeling to get across. Everything serves the idea. Then, the content. Whether it's rocks, water, trees and sky—or facts, personal experiences, examples—the content is what brings the idea to life. Last, the form. Form is the way content is shaped to communicate an idea. It's the way ideas are organized, framed or developed. It's the lens through which you ask the audience to look at your subject.
Idea, content and form come together in a single image.
In a writing project, it's essential to put a great deal of energy into these elements. The idea must be clear and worth communicating. The content must be compelling, appropriate and engaging. The form must fit the idea and must not call attention to itself.
